Stanford conservation biologists Paul and Anne Ehrlich discuss three challenging global trends: increasing population, rising consumption, and growing political and economic inequities. In a conversation moderated by ecologist Gretchen Daily, the Ehrlichs give cause for concern and offer reasons for hope.
PAUL EHRLICH
Paul Ehrlich joined Stanford's Department of
Biological Sciences faculty in 1959 and is now the Bing Professor of
Population Studies. One of the world's eminent ecologists, his research
has revolutionized thought among the community of scientists who study
conservation biology and coevolution.
ANNE EHRLICH
Anne Ehrlich is policy coordinator of
Stanford's Center for Conservation Biology. She has coauthored more
than ten books and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts
and Sciences in 1995.

Gretchen Daily is Bing Interdisciplinary
Scientist at Stanford University. Described as a "Role Model for
Ecology's Generation X" by Science magazine, she is author of more than
